            In 1949, founder Gage Van Horn started a small, family oriented company in the small town of Pecos, Texas. Starting as a label, business forms, and filing supplies based business, Gage Van Horn & Associates has grown to become a company with combined branch sales close to $100 million. The company has expanded their product list by selling items from cleaning supplies to grocery store food packaging. However, Mr. Van Horn did not keep his company thriving by just selling his high quality goods, but by providing the customer with an unparalleled customer experience that brings the customer into the Van Horn family.

            That tradition of “on call” customer service has continued generation, after generation, when Mr. Van Horn hired his son-in-law, Buddy Furgerson. Under the leadership, and experience that Buddy provided, Gage Van Horn & Associates expanded its offices throughout Texas, by extending the reach of the Van Horn family to Dallas, San Angelo, Brownwood, Amarillo, Midland/Odessa, and finally Lubbock, where the company’s headquarters has resided for over 35 yeas.

            Continuing the tradition of a family based company, Buddy hired his son-in-law, Joe Schmidt in 1997. Joe, having been in the food brokerage business twelve years prior to working with Buddy, Joe brought a new perspective to this otherwise limited business of filing, and business forms. Foreseeing the rise of online business forms, and digital filing, Joe pitched an idea to Buddy that would forever change the scope of Gage Van Horn & Associates. Joe’s vision was to expand Gage Van Horn’s product catalog to include grocery store packaging supplies. Backed by their vision, Buddy and Joe started GVH/Millennium Distribution Ltd. in 2003 to begin selling grocery store packaging and supplies. Not long after the start of GVH/Millennium, the partners landed the opportunity to sell products to over 50 stores within the United Supermarkets grocery store chain. However, competitive pricing was not what landed that opportunity, but the customer service tradition that began over 50 years earlier when Mr. Van Horn was selling labels in Pecos, Texas.

            Pushing customer service to its height, GVH/Millennium offered its revolutionary “cross dock” system so that customers would not have to go through the hassle of sorting their products and storing them in their own warehouses. GVH/Millennium goes that extra step to provide the “cross dock” service to all customers, keeping products in the GVH/Millennium warehouse, and sorting the products according to the store for easy pick up. The “cross dock” system shows that GVH/Millennium is 100% dedicated to the customer.

            Proving that the “cross dock” system was a success, GVH/Millennium opened a second “cross dock” warehouse at the Amarillo branch of the company. With the second “cross dock” warehouse fully functional, GVH/Millennium was able to secure the business of Affiliated Foods, Inc. The “cross dock” system in Amarillo is significant because it was one of the first “live cross dock” programs in the country. The only difference between “cross dock” and “live cross dock” systems are that when an order goes into the “live cross dock” system, the order and the product go out within a few hours providing immediate customer product fulfillment.
